*Da Black Age of Comics report:

The 10th annual Black Age of Comics was held October 6,2007. At Kenwood Academy in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The term "Black Age" and the concept was created by its founder Turtel Onli.

Mr. Onli (left in photo) created the concept of the Black Age in 1993 to represent African-American publishers, characters, and writers who virtually unknown to the those who read mainstream comics.

Mr. Onli also created the Black Age of Comics convention to provide Black creators a chance to show their creativity, but to also to show the general public Black and White who are unaware that there are African-American comic creators.

Since then, The Black Age has expanded in scope to include Black Age events held across the country. Where Black Age is represented by a diverse field of creators. "We are honored to being a part of the Black Age, and we hope to be an inspiration to someone as Mr. Onli has been to us.", says Serenade Creator, Barbara Jenkins. (Barbara Jenkins right in photo, poses with a new Kiss Me Comix reader at the Black Age.)

Kiss Me Comix was on hand with several other creators , showing old and new readers what they had to offer. "This convention means a lot to us, we look forward to informing people that African-American characters and publishing do have a significant role in comics, and can be just as interesting and profitable as their White counterparts." Rod Jenkins, said.

Serenade Mail: I really appreciated having chance to read issue # 8 of Serenade. I think Barbara worked very hard on story and art. I was captured by Flaming Wing story. I liked how story was told through “The Flaming Wing Nightclub” owner Mike Deltoro. Art was kind that I have learned to appreciate from Barbara Jenkins. I wondered if Chicago night club was based on real location? I have read many stories about paranormal buildings. I have even watched few movies on topic. My friend Paul Dale Roberts has even written about them at: www.jazmaonline.com My favorite page in story was scene of Serena Park was singing to ghosts. I was glad Serena was able to share story of seeing ghosts to Mike. I felt tears finding out about fire in 1927. I did not know Serena was able to sense ghosts presence. Can she also see Jonathan? Is he supporting her from grave? Was Serena attracted to nightclub by spirits?

I was glad that Serena decided to heal her sorrowful wounds. I could see this was going to happen after reading last issue Vigilance. Her husband will always be missed by Serena. I am glad that she did not go into terrible depression. Her soul wishes to live. Serena will serenade spirits with her wonderful voice. I loved way title worked way into issue # 8. I think Mike should feel very lucky that Serena Park has decided to sing at: “The Flaming Wing” nightclub. Entities will be very happy when Serena returns for performances.

I also felt bond with spirits by revealing sentences about depression clothes. I also really liked mood of cover. It set me up for spirits in: “The Flaming Wing.” I thought last two issues had excellent editing. Plot moved very quickly in issue # 8. I am really happy that I took time to subscribe to Serenade. I also like DVD about company. It was refreshing to actually see what Barbara Jenkins looked and sounded like in real life. It was also interesting hearing about KMC.
